Are you spending too much time looking in the rearview mirror?
There’s an obvious reason why the windshield in our car is bigger than the rearview mirror.
How about the windshield of our life?
I’m afraid that the rearview mirror gets bigger in the second half of life for too many people.
Are we spending too much time reliving the past, rehashing old grievances, or lamenting all the things we could have done?
If you’re 40 and live to be 80, you haven’t even lived half of your adult life if your adult life starts at 18. You still have more than half of your life left. Why do so many people consider 40 as over the hill? You’re a long way from the top of the hill.
Are you getting old or growing old? Everybody’s getting old. Not everyone is growing old.
We create our life by the questions we ask. I’ve asked the wrong questions most of my life. Most of the questions were some form of “What’s wrong with me?” or “What’s wrong with you?” Those questions will certainly create a life, just not the life we want.
I wish I had asked more Beautiful questions earlier in my life. Those are those questions that have no answers or at least no quick answers.
Beautiful questions lead us to more questions than answers.
Beautiful questions can take us on a journey of self-discovery that can be painful but always transformational.
Beautiful questions lead us toward an intentional, purposeful life instead of a default life.
Here are some beautiful questions:
Who do I want to be as I grow old?
What does the good life mean to me as I grow into elderhood?
What gifts do I have in the second half of my life that I can use in the service of others?
Is your life’s windshield bigger than your rearview mirror?
