The Problem With Imagination

Oct 3, 2022 | Encouragement

The problem with imagination is that we don’t know how to use it.

We stand on the precipice between imagining the best of what could be or the worst of what is. Too often we imagine the worst of what is and bring that into our lives and the lives of others. The Law of Attraction says that we get what we think about whether we want it our not. Are you thinking more about things you don’t want?

Do you remember the night before Christmas when you were a kid? Go back and capture that feeling you had as you went to bed. Your imagination was running wild with “visions of sugar plums dancing in your head.” You were so excited about the next day you could hardly go to sleep.

Is that the way you anticipate the next day now? Are you imagining all the wonderful things you’re going to do and all the fun you’re going to have or are you imagining all the things you dread?

If visions of dread instead of sugar plums are dancing through your head it might be time to examine your purpose. Are you pursuing a job, a career, or a calling? If you’re pursuing a job, your purpose is probably at the lower level of Maslow’s hierarchy – survival and security. There’s nothing wrong with that, but is survival and security the foundation of a higher calling in your life?

I believe that one of the reasons for the Great Resignation during COVID was many people realized that their life had been reduced to meaningless, repetitive activities that brought them no joy..

Do you love what you do for work? If so, what about your work gives you a sense of purpose? If not, what manner of work would give your life more meaning?
