Quiet Quitting?

Oct 4, 2022 | Encouragement

The latest meme to hit social media is Quiet Quitting.

It’s as if this has suddenly appeared as a result of the COVID crisis, but it’s been around for a long time.

In my opinion, it’s a result of poor leadership, lack of purpose, and lack of human connection and community. It’s the result of the dehumanizing effect of technology on business where even the time-honored performance review has been digitized and conducted at arm’s length.

When was the last time you tried to get “help” from your tech support department if you work for a big company? You were probably treated just like your customers who are forced to jump through if/then algorithms before there’s any human connection if at all. Most companies today are trying to route questions to robots. Technology! What a great way to keep from talking to our customers.

Let’s contrast the Ukranian military and the Russian military to get a better idea of quiet quitting . . . or maybe not so quiet as we watch hundreds of thousands of young men fleeing the Russian draft.

The Ukranian soldiers have an intrinsic purpose that comes from deep within them. They are responding to a higher calling.

The Russian soldiers have had their purpose commanded by a leader who appears to have no connection to humanity.

One leader is serving the needs of his people. The other is serving the needs of himself.

Are people in your company fleeing the commands of your leader? If so, why?
